The conclusion: A total of four hours for this game.

Post by nihilo »

I played this game against kagishuwo. As I don't have internet acess at the time, I'm recreating the game on my cell phone. Please comment as you will:

I resigned after move 55. As, I felt that I had too many weaknesses in my position.

I guess I first learned of the game when I was 16. I am 21 now. Why?

Trying to figure out your level and experience (apart from the few moves in the game :)).
So do you estimate you have finished 100 games so far?

I've probably played more than a thousand games. The upper bound is a mystery though.

Wow!
Lucky me I don't post games for review.
Would hate to be grilled like that before any comments are given.

Especially by people not reading the original question very carefully. ;)

My comment: you resigned way too early. I don't even think you're behind...

Opps, I guess I read it a bit differently; I guessed that nihilo and kagishuwo are KGS usernames (and they are), I read:
- maybe they played the game online (say, KGS)
- later, nihilo could not go online, so he could not retrieve the game, so he replayed the game on his cell phone
But then I realized if he could access L19, he was online, so it means this game was played in person?
My bad; thanks, Bantari. :)

Do you really consider that a grilling?

Anyhow, it is difficult comment, but I'm not entirely sure why you resigned. Maybe you can elaborate on why you thought you were behind so we see what your thought process is.

Some basic shape suggestions:

Move 18 - Normally, respond to diagonal contact moves (C8 or D7).

Move 34 - Bad. Black M17 gives white a broken shape (ripped keima). http://senseis.xmp.net/?LameDuGo#toc2

Move 46 - Respond to diagonal contact moves (R9). Also, don't invite a ripped tobi. http://senseis.xmp.net/?LameDuGo#toc3

Move 54 - Why not follow up on your push at R9 and stop black from connecting there?

Move 56 - Way too early to resign. White is doing just fine.

I'm typing on a tiny keyboard, so apologies if this is terse...

4: Wrong side. Unusual situations only.
6: Too far. I'd play in the open corner.
8: unusual.
13: What??? Get out.
14: Should be G5.
16: Too far. Leaves a giant invasion point. J3 is correct, I think.
17: Insane. The armpit hit is never good, and this is not an exception.
18: D8 or G5 look better to me. D8 seems essential.
20: f6 is trying to save a garbage stone. Tenuki.
21: Wrong side.
22: Just enclose.
24: Enclose is still better. Black can't connect anyway, so this is unnecessary.
31: Really slow.
32: Both this attachment and the last one were really small moves. Help your two stones on the side instead.
34: Never play this again; Black connects and then you have horrible shape. If you wanted to play here, then you shouldn't have played 32.
35: connect, it harms white's other stone more.
38: Did you read the ladder?
40: I don't understand this move.
41: Locally m2 seems better.
43: Why play m3 and abandon it? It doesn't make sense.
45: Another armpit hit. Still bad.
46: Q8!
47: Q8!!
51: R11!!!
54: I'd S9, I think.

I'm guessing both players are below 10k, in which case I have two comments:

1: Don't resign until it's totally obvious to you that you can't win without a silly blunder from your opponent. Like, you have 100 dead stones.

2: 4 hour games are probably not terribly productive at your level. Play faster. You get to play more that way :)

I'm a little stunned... why would you resign just because there were a few weaknesses? He had weaknesses too, weaknesses are a thing you need to learn to deal with. How you deal with them is more important than whether or not they're there...

If you give up this easily, it will be very hard to learn and get stronger.
Tactics yes, Tact no...
