I've been replaying over the Gu Li v Iyama Yuta game, it's very exciting and complicated, ending in a massive ko:

(Sorry about the encoding, Iyama Yuta is white) I can't quite see why Gu Li resigned, it looks like a two-step ko to me, but I'm sure he read ahead and saw that he couldn't win it.

It seems that now a Japanese player will definitely be in the top 4. Just for fun, here are my predictions for the final rounds:

Quarterfinals:
Piao Wenyao > Park Junghwan
Iyama Yuta > Sakai Hideyuki
Lee Sedol > Qiu Jun
Xie He > Jiang Weijie

Semifinals:
Iyama Yuta > Piao Wenyao
Lee Sedol > Xie He

Finals:
Lee Sedol > Iyama Yuta

Iyama Meijin is awesome, but I still think Lee Sedol is the best in the world. Either way I would be very excited to see a Lee/Iyama final!

There is also the Q16 ko which is initiated once white descends to T14. Black cannot win both.

What I have read :

If black save the L8 group, W descent at T14, then it's a ko for the Q12 group
But the H14 group is also a ko, it mean that black will lose either Q12 or H14 group

If black doesn't save the L8 group and save the Q12 group, white win the A6 ko too

Whatever black does, the big white dragon is alive

Ok, so when white plays the descent as a ko threat at 222, why doesn't black just connect at T14? (maybe we should move to another thread?)

Well, the heart of the matter is number of ko threats. White has a bunch involving black's center group. If he connects at T14, that gives white two more ko threats (I think) starting with R17.

Someone stronger would need to give you a tally, but I played the game out a couple times and keep getting Gu Li lacking if he plays T14. A strong player like him would be able to read it out, I need to play it out.

Sakai Hideyuki's run so far is impressive, beating Lee Younggu and Tuo Jiaxi who have had good years in their respective countries. I wonder how he will fair against Iyama? I'm really pulling for him (Iyama) to win the whole thing.

Yes, Go Park Junghwan. I thought his game was interesting. Park got 4 corners and just have to live inside white moyo. Recently I notice Park Junghwan style. He likes corner, taking territory, and fight in the center. That's his strength I think.
