I play on KBaduk's Chinese servers, although I don't speak Chinese. If my opponents have made rude comments to me, I'll never know. I've never been escaped on there, although I have encountered a few strangely early resignations. That just adds to my Win ration, though, and it's so easy to get into games there that I don't really mind.

How about annoying behaviors during kibitz:

1. People who type "lol" when someone suggests a move, a sequence, misspeaks in some way, &c. Perhaps it is part of internet culture that I just don't get, but if someone laughed in person after I suggested something I'd be about an inch away from punching them in the nose. Then again, maybe I am just violent.

2. People who flat out insult the players or other kibitzers. In a way, the above can be seen as a mild form of this behavior. Most people try to excuse themselves as "hey, I was just kidding," but in my opinion that cowardice is almost as disgusting.

3. People who cannot help themselves from calling out "obvious" next moves. What is obvious in Go is somewhat difficult to define, but when I see a strong player call out nobi after nobi or moves in an often played standard sequence it gets a bit annoying. It is also probably flooding in general.

4. People who after losing the game don't say a word, but proceed to take control, show some sequence that might have been played instead and then leave. Or, similarly, go on a long discussion of how they shouldn't of lost this game because they made such and such mistake.

I am someone who resigns in the point counting. The reason is sometimes I miscount and think the game is actually closer, or I am time pressured and don't have the time to count. In those instances, if I am losing by more than 10 points, I will resign instead of clicking "done." I can't give a satisfactory reason, but I don't like having losses of >10 show on my game list. Perhaps it is a bit of a vanity thing.

However, I am annoyed by people who resign at the passing stage. To me, this indicates that they know they lost and were hoping for a mistake they could capitalize on or a time win.

The vanity is the reason I dislike resigning in the point counting phase myself. I actually don't mind if someone plays until the end a game where they are obviously behind, but feel that if one either misjudges the points or just likes to play on and either hope for an opponent mistake or see the final score, they should also "take responsibility" for going also through the counting phase.

I often end up doing one of those three - sometimes I even dislike some silly mistake (e.g. dying with a corner that could have been saved if I'd thought for 10s instead of 2s) enough so I want to play until the end to see just how large a blunder I made. But after such a game it feels justified that I get that B+56.5 score to my game list. Maybe I'm even a bit proud of them - it's like I've been able to admit that I did not count / miscounted / played a bad game and did not resign. :)

Yes this is annoying, especially people who proceed to try all kinds of things that would not have worked even if I was still a DDK. Of course, even more annoying is that sometimes I get pissed enough about it and make a point of ignoring any move that is not absolutely threatening, and then the opponent suddenly gets just enough aji to turn a game that I was winning about 30-40 points to a game I lose about the same amount. :D

re Trash Talk:

There are different kinds of trash talk: friendly versus unfriendly. If both players enjoy friendly trash talk not disturbing others in a tournament, then that is perfectly ok. E.g., Cornel and I sometimes like to have fun with trash talk.

re Hi:

"hi" and "thx" are both stupid and could as well be omitted. CGoban misses an autotext command. If my opponent says hi, usually I reply though but never with hi; in my German ears, it sounds just too stupid.

re Non-standard Openings:

Rude are those resigning on move 2 when seeing 9-7. Some even want me to force playing ordinary fuseki. They should play against themselves if they can't bear the opponents' free choice of moves.

Playing non-standard openings is so much fun! The percentage of 4d+ players not knowing strategy well then has been declining since I started them.

Quite some computer programs have abandoned non-standard openings. Are their programmers scared of not understanding why the programs played well? They should study some go theory instead of making their programs boring!
