Should "I like this post" be enabled for off topics?
Currently the "I like this post" button is disabled for posts in the off-topic section. Do you want it to be enabled?

Yep, I say make it universal or not at all.

Pardon me for being a curmudgeon, but I vote for removing the feature entirely, from all forums.

I like this.

I see two different possibilities:
To re-rename the "like" into "gratitude" and explicitly state that it is a thank you for providing useful information.
(About books, josekis, rules, software or whatever.) It should then remain disabled in "Off Topic"
To keep the "like" as "like" and enable it in "Off Topic"
Either way is fine by me.
+1
To sig or not to sig, that is the question.

I like this, as well.
It actually gives the "like" (or "gratitude") more actual meaning. If we turn it on in the Off Topic section of the forums, it's just going to turn it completely into some thing used for too many different reasons. There are legitimate "likes" for topics we find useful, and then there are plenty of likes for a funny post, for humors sake, etc. So what purpose do we want this to serve?

Re: Should "I like this post" be enabled for off topics?
First,
for those who see this poll and wonder what's this all about in the first place there has been some background discussion in this thread:
New Feature -- Gratitude
Renaming it to gratitude doesn't really change anything. If I can press "like" on posts that are totally unrelated to go I can also do that for "gratitude". I will feel great gratitude to anyone who bashes Steve Jobs/Apple, or tells a funny joke. Nothing will change really, and the feature will be used like today, to indicate all kinds of things unrelated to go. So the question still stands why it should keep being disabled for off-topics. I don't see a compelling reason, but I see a reason to enable it. I.e. let the users use the feature the way they want (they already do, but can't for off-topics).
Edit: Both Joaz and Bill Spight have 4 likes each, I have 12. Both Joaz and Bill give sage advice on go. I can't remember ever doing it. It is clear that the feature isn't used to indicate conveyed go knowledge, thus it only makes sense to enable it for off-topics too.

I certainly see what you mean, and I believe that was the original intent for the button. It's just that it isn't used that way, and changing the text of the button won't change this.

this post i agree with. to me it just seems like a way for people in the clique to pass kudos to each other, and i dont think forums should be like that
