Araban wrote:Cool :). The general consensus I've heard is that Protoss and Terran are more beginner-friendly than Zerg, mostly because managing the Queen isn't as simple as Chrono Boosting buildings (Protoss) or launching MULEs (Terran). You also have to be concerned about controlling parts of the map with the creep, but I think the biggest factor should be just finding the race you're most comfortable with. Get the hang of that race after about 40-50 games (Isn't there a Starcraft proverb, lose your first 50 games quickly? ;)) and then try the other races to make sure you know how they work and the multitude of features and pros/cons about them. I'm a Protoss player, but that's because I've been using Protoss since SC1 way back.

Haha, if I do pick it up (which I'm trying very hard to avoid), I'll almost definitely start with Terran for the same reason. The many joys of loaded barracks + siege tank + turret defensive walls with wraiths for point defense (it's amazing how often people would pick assault forces designed for mass impact instead of cloak detection - either that or zergs sending individual / paired guardians assuming their air + range would be enough) made defending terran bases sooo easy.

Damn this thread, I'm getting close to thinking about buying the game already, Starcraft was such a great RTS...

One really annoying thing about SC2 is that you can't play with people from other regions. At all.
The country you register you account with determines your region (I think currently there are US,EU and Asia). Beta keys are region independent, and are bound when you register them on an account.
So when you post an account you need to specify on which gateway it is.

That might be annoying, but I assume it's a server bandwidth thing. They might be testing how much bandwidth they need in each zone.

I skipped the practice ladder and played two games yesterday, the first against AI to check the buildings and units etc. and the other one was my first ranking match. Won both with Toss but I think I'll switch to terran.

My exam today went pretty well and now I've more then enough time to play some starcraft, hopefully I'll get smashed soon, cant imagine a noob like me to be in something other then the last league possible ^_^

Edit// Played some more games, 3:1 now in the ranking matches, I'm frightend that I'll be put in a league way to high because actually I kinda suck atm and dont know why I won the games ...

Apparently after the Mac version got released recently, there has been a sharp influx of newbies playing so you might have bumped into them. Either way, for sure you won't end up in Copper league with 3:1 already :D.

By the way, I was very surprised to read recently that the rating system used to match up players in SC2 is the ELO rating system :o - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating ... ther_games - This is dreaming, but it'd pretty sweet if players were given ranks like 5d or 1k and handicap would be accounted by health % advantage :p.

Okay ended in gold league with 4-1 ... man I dont even know the unitnames of the things I'm building :X

Also I played some 2on2 games with a friend of mine and we got crushed badly :X
1v1 and 2v2 feel like a complete different game, the 2v2 games tend to be much longer than the 1v1 games ending with battlecruisers and mass voidrays etc. ~ havent seen this much airunits in 1v1.

I read in the comments that the button was originally made by a fan for nada : )

Ghostclaw @ page 94

OMG my gg button showed up on nal-ra. You can hear it in the 11th minute. I gave it to nada at blizzcon. <3 <3 (11th minute)

If anyone ever hears that it breaks, have them PM me and I'll fix it for sure <3 <3

Must be awesome to see that nada still has the button ^^

Hehe, yeah my little brother just got a beta key and he was pretty heart-broken after I told him it was ending in a few weeks. But look on the bright side, if you pre-ordered then you only have to wait a couple of months :).
