European Student Go Championship

Post by Javaness2 »

It took me a while, but I found the entry list. http://www.goweb.cz/cs/node/3116
Anyone willing to bet against Artem winning? :)

By the way, the Czech Go Association's Calendar rocks.

you are right i wouldn't bet, but losing one game might be enough to losing the overall victory and in one game many things can happen. what bothers me a bit is chosen system, if they play 5 rounds Swiss as declared, the few top players with realistic chance of winning will play at least two rounds against much weaker opponents, effectively leaving 3 rounds to decide the order on the top, which is not much. but i suppose organizers are also aware of it, so they will adjust the system to something more preferable

I might be wrong, but probably not.

okay, no upset came and Artem won the Championship 5-0

his 'final' with Jan Šimara 5d was a pretty good show, both started very carefully and claimed half the board each, but their slow play used most of their 1h basic time in fuseki, so when 3x30s byoyomi started, things got more messy, Jan's sure-to-live invasion died and left him at severe disadvantage. although he struggled to come back, Artem held the game in his hands until Jan resigned

too bad they didn't have bigger time-allowance, the epic opening would deserve to keep the level of play higher

for other sgf's, see egoban.cz (the text is in Czech, but results and sgfs are readable internationally)
