My latest game

Post by Pippen »

Hi there.

I have a question about a game I played recently. I wonder if my move 93 was too greedy trying to go into white's moyo instead of stabilizing my middle group. This middle group looks stable at the first glance, but could be severley attacked down the stretch. So should I have played a different move (and where?) to stabilize this group or was my move OK and I'm too cautious?

Besides that I feel I played a pretty decent game against a KGS-1d. Do u agree or do you see heaby blunders somewhere I missed?

17 and following: This feels like the wrong direction, letting white build an outside wall when he already has a moderately good grip on the left side.
BTW, in some situations, joseki for the lower left is C10 ( though perhaps not immediately ). The point is that black is then threatening to play B6, saving C6 and depriving white of eye space. The sequence that you played in the upper left destroys this aji.

30: He should play A15 - or maybe even D14.

31: This is a really ungainly move, illustrating the futility of its predecessors at C14 and B14. Just leave the aji, invade or reduce later.

45: Q3 is the honte move here, IMHO. It permanently protects your cutting point, and contests the corner.

50&52: Aji keshi.

I'm going to quit here and take a dinner break. As I look back on my comments, I notice a common theme: the majority of my comments are about aji. Either you are exploiting it prematurely, or destroying it.

93: It is not a bad move. If you are worried about life, you could play M6 first.

115: S18 kills

121: J4 is weak. By playing like this, you encourage it to become stronger. Push through at K4.
BTW, think how much trouble white would be in if you had played Q3 earlier. Then you could have played S2 safely instead of R2, and he would be short on eye space.

131: G3 covers everything.

133: M6 is the vital point. If he defends, then you play S6, and - I think - it is a ko for his life.
