Fantasy go league: rules, registration and results!

Post by emeraldemon »

Update: The League has begun! Results posted in this thread, it's not too late to join!

Fantasy League Rules:

Dates:
I intend this to be a shorter test league, running for the rest of November, December, January, and February. If all goes well we can hopefully make the league ongoing. The first game to add points for the league will be the Kuksu final game 3, on Nov 8.

Professional Selection:
Each player has $300 for buying pros. No more than $100 may be spent on pros from any one country.
To figure out the costs of each pro, I figured out how many points they would have earned in the following events:
3rd BC Card Cup
15th LG Cup
15th Samsung Cup
24th Fujitsu Cup
12th Nongshim Cup
2nd Triple Meijin
35th Kisei
36th Meijin
66th Honinbo
54th Kuksu
38th Myeongin
16th GS Caltex Cup
23rd Mingren
25th Tianyuan

In general, these were the most recent completed tournament for each event.

Any player not on this list costs $1. You may buy as many pros as you can afford, but only $100 on players from a single country (if you don't know what country a pro is from, ask). Multiple players may buy the same pro. You do not have to spend all your money at once, but pros bought midway through an event will not recieve points for that event; you can't buy a player once they reach the finals and get points for that win. You may sell pros, but you only recieve 90% of refund price, rounded to the nearest dollar. (There may be periodic "free trades", to be determined).

Point System for tournaments:
Still under construction. Here's the system I used for the above scoring:
Major International titles: Fujitsu, BC Card, LG, Samsung, Chunlan
1 point for reaching Ro32 and Ro16,
2 pts for Ro8
3 pts for Ro4 +2 for 3rd place where applicable
4 pts for 2nd
6 pts winning bo1, 3/win bo3, 2/win bo5

This is cumulative, so getting first place is 17 points, second is 11, etc.

The Kisei, Meijin, & Honinbo Leagues:
2 points for placing in the league
1 point for each win
2 points for placing first in a league
2 points for each game of a title match won

In general, I've decided that seeded players get the same points as non-seeded players who have reached the same point. In particular,
players who hold a title get an automatic 11 points for bypassing the tournament. This may seem to be too much of an advantage in picking that player, but I'd rather not have disincentives to choose title holders.

Myeongin & GS Caltex Cup are straight single-elimination, and score the same as the international cups. Kuksu, Mingren, and Tianyuan have a single-elimination tournament to pick a challenger (like tengen). For those the title-holder gets the same 11 points as for the Japanese titles, and the points for the rest of the tournament are essentially the same: 11 to challenge, 9 for 2nd place, 7 for semis, 4 for Ro8, 2 for Ro16, 1 for Ro32.

For Nongshim Cup and Triple Meijin, I counted a flat 2 points per win.

Upcoming Events and Points:

All events that count for points will be collected here. I may add more events as we go along; if so I will post an announcement and update this list.

November:
Kuksu title match: 2 points/game
Nongshim Cup 2nd stage: 2 points
Kisei challenger decision match: 2 points
LG Cup Ro4: 3 points
Myeongin Semifinals: 4 points (still need dates for this!)
Mingren Finals: 2 points/game
Oza Finals : 2 points/game
Tengen Finals: 2 points/ game

December:
Meijin League Round 1: 1 point
Honinbo League Round 3: 1 point
Samsung Cup Finals: 3 points/game
Japan-China Agon Cup: 1 point?

January:
BC Card Cup Ro32: 1 point
Kisei Title match: 2 points/game
Meijin League Round 2: 1 point
Honinbo League Round 4: 1 point
GS Caltex Cup Ro32: 1 point

February:
BC Card Cup Ro16: 1 point per win
Nongshim Cup 3rd stage: 2 points
Kisei Title match: 2 points/game
Tianyuan Ro32: 1 point

Important: Note that as we begin the league, ongoing tournaments will add points to your totals. If we wait until each new tournament begins, there will be too few games.

If you'd like to play, just post in this thread with your purchase choices. Any questions or comments, please ask

What does halfway through an event mean for the Japanese leagues?

How are you awarding points for the Korean and Chinese events?

For the round-robin leagues, you can still get points midway because everyone plays the same number of games. So if you pick up a player with three games left in the round-robin, you can still get points for those three games.

I'll add these to the first post.

I want to emphasize that ideally I'd like to include more events than just these, and we'll have to come up with new points formats as we add new tournaments. I think this thing will ramp up as we go, many of the events take place over the course of a year.

Yes, multiple people can purchase the same pro. I've edited the rules to clarify, thank you :)

I did my Japan list, haven't thought hard enough about the rest.

Iyama Yuta - 44
Cho U - 32
Sakai Hideyuki - 8
Yuki Satoshi - 7
Yoda Norimoto - 4
Kono Rin - 3
Murakawa Daisuke - 1
Ko Iso - 1

Na Hyun - 1

I went for cheap and many, though I considered going all out and buying as many < $5 players as possible. If I ever did that, I hope you're automating this!

Edit: Silly mistake, had > instead of <.

Are there any restrictions about when, how much and how often one can change his linsup? Lineup-changes are via pm I guess?

I might be wrong, but probably not.

Yes, there will be restrictions, I haven't decided exactly how frequently one can trade players, I'm leaning towards a fixed number of trades per month (maybe 5)?

Yes, there's no harm in dropping out. There shouldn't be any harm in joining late either, with the caveat that you may not get points for ongoing events.

Also, from when to when is the league - this will factor in the selection of my team. Are the tournaments which you used to determine the worth of a player the ones affecting the league?

Thanks for the quick reply :)

I updated the first post in a way that hopefully answers your first question.

All the tournaments I used to determine costs will be used in the league, at the prices posted. In addition, I reserve the right to add additional tournaments at what prices I see fit, as I find time to add them ;-)

In particular, some of the things I'm thinking about:
Japan's Tengen, Oza, Judan, Gosei
Korean Baduk League, Chinese A League
Asian TV Cup

I'm definitely open to suggestions for additional events, so please post if there's something in particular you want to see!

I might as well throw my hat into the ring on this, though I'm just going to spend $100 on each and watch what happens. My Japanese team is huge ... but not all that strong ...

China:
Chen Yaoye 23
Kong Jie 21
Xie He 16
Qiu Jun 11
Meng Tailing 9
Yu Bin 9
Wang Yao 7
Peng Quan 4

Total: $100
