Leyleth's arrival

Post by Leyleth »

Ohai people!

I'm an 18 year old boy from Quebec, Canada. I speak mostly french, therefore, if my grammar is bad, please excuse me. I'm trying my best :D I'm a Dragon Ball fan (yeah, another one). I also love Resident Evil (both games and movies), Legend of Zelda, reading and eating.

Right now, I'm studying in Social Sciences, but I don't like it.. I don't like school and every career I can think of seems boring as all hell. When I started playing go, I discovered a passion. I play and I don't get tired of it. I would love to become a go pro, but I'm not sure if I can make it.

I've learned about go 5 months ago by reading the Hikaru no Go series (which are awesome, btw) and that got me playing go. My whole journey began 3 months ago, when I registered on KGS as "Leyleth". Since my first games, I've been ranked as a 10k. I quickly climbed up, and I'm now at 7k. However, I don't think that it is my real level, since I'm able to crush 6-7k players by 70 points. The big reason while I'm only at 7k is probably my lack of concentration, my "experiments" (which backfire VERY often) and my lack of reading (I'm unable to read when I look at a computer screen. In real life go, I don't have this problem). When I go at the go club near my house, I'm playing 2d players with a 3 stone handicap.

I hope talking about go with other players can help me improve. I've set myself the objective of being 2d in 1 year of play (September 19th 2012).

Let's have fun and progress together! Can't wait to discuss with you guys!

Welcome to the forums.

Please don't apologize for your English. It is better than that of many native English speakers. :-?

Bored with social studies? Good! That - combined with your interest in go - probably indicates that you have a mind desperate for facts and logic. Try math or physics or computer science in school. Not only will it make you happier, it will make you richer.

I like how social studies = a bad thing with no logic and facts :D I like the fields you're proposing, but I simply don't have the grades to be accepted in such programs.

Btw, aren't lawyers one of the richest jobs available? :p

While anyone can go to law school, they are overwhelmingly social science concentrators just as (for example) medical students are overwhelmingly biological science concentrators. I believe that's what he meant.

In general, people take the professional implications of different degrees far too seriously. Look no further than the 2010 Census.

Sir, wrote:Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal provides us with a handy interactive graphic examining unemployment rates by major according to the 2010 Census. Coming in toward the top of the list and ahead of "art history and criticism" are the sorts of degrees you'd expect, like those falling into "miscellaneous fine arts", but also "computer administration management and security", "engineering and industrial management", "international business", "electrical and mechanic repairs and technologies", "materials engineering and materials science", "genetics", "neuroscience", "biochemical sciences", and "computer engineering". I bet those graduates are all trying to break into puppetry!
