For once, I'm glad I have an inexpensive go board

General discussions about gobans, etc., go here. If you're selling go equipment, it should go in the Trading Post.

For once, I'm glad I have an inexpensive go board

Post by penfold »

I've been lusting after a 1-piece board for quite some time now. I have a folding board that resides on our coffee table that doesn't get nearly enough use (it's for studying!). Well, yesterday, I became completely grateful that I have a cheapie.

Overnight, the cat barfed on the board.

I cleaned it up and there's no real damage done. But if the cat had done that on a 1-piece board, there would be a cat hanging on the mantle as opposed to a Christmas stocking. (j/k but I would seriously consider locking the cat in the bathroom overnight!)

Best methods of cleaning cat barf from a go board: use a damp paper towel to wipe away all residue and immediately follow up with some Pledge.

Hence if people plan to buy a premium item such as a one-piece kaya board, they should also think about investing in a paulownia box to store and protect the board when it is not in use.

I'm leaning towards paulownia rather than plastic.

Never could deal with grandma's plastic covered sofa.....

I hope the cat is alright. Most cats will respond to a squirt of Pledge by running away but likcing it off their coat can make them sick again later.

When I had a larger home, the cheap Korean floor board was covered with a lovely piece of Japanese silk that disguised a bath towel cut into a square. The bowls sat on top of the silk but our cat still found room to lounge on the board because of its placement in front of a window. She seemed to feel it was as much her board as mine and looked right at home.

I'm not mean enough to spray Pledge on the cat!

One of the cat's many nicknames is "Barf-beast" and she's still at it -- just not on the cheapie go board.
