XuanXuanGo 7.6 released

Post by xuanxuan »

XuanXuanGo is a multi-featured Go program that is capable of game record editing and reading, life-and-death problem practice, joseki, computer Go and network Go. XuanXuanGo has its own artificial intelligence and can solve life-and-death problems by it self.

Since XuanXuanGo made itself the default SGF viewer without asking, I tried to uninstall it. So far, I have not succeeded. Sometimes the uninstall program runs, says that XuanXuanGo has been uninstalled, but it's still there. Sometimes the uninstall program just crashes. XuanXuanGo is not listed in the list of programs that windows can remove.

I admit, I might have played a part by accidentally installing the program into different directories, but while I'm no computer whiz, I've never had this much trouble getting a program removed from my computer.

XuanXuanGo might be an interesting program (what you download is a free version with quite a lot of go problems - the paid versions have more) but there do seem to still be some kinks that need to be worked out. If anyone can help me remove it and make CGoban my default viewer again, I'd appreciate it.

Sorry for the trouble caused.

XuanXuanGo only set it self as default sgf reader when HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.sgf is NOT registered on the computer, although it does allows the user to manually set the program as default sgf reader.

I tested the uninstall program many times, and I didn't encounter the problem you described, maybe the OS is different.

However, you can remove XuanXuanGo manually with following steps:
1, delete the program directory
2, remove HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\XuanXuanGo with regedit
3, remove HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.sgf with regedit
4, delete the short-cut on desktop and the menu items in the menu.

To run regedit, from Start menu, choose Run, then input regedit.

Then you might need reinstall CGoban to register it as default sgf reader.

I hope the information helps.

Thank you! That's pretty much what I ended up doing, and it worked fine. Not sure what went wrong, but it's not unlikely that it had to do with the person sitting in front of my computer.

LOL, I recognize that problem! Haven't found a solution yet though...

Well, a solution I found that works for <cough> my computer </cough> is to move away from keyboard and mouse, some 50 cm (roughly 20") are enough.
