This sounds like so much fun. I'm tempted to do the same. Probably after 2 bottles of wine or something. I'll try to get video + audio working before I do it though as that should heighten the amusement

All of this can only end badly. I can't wait!

I'd love to see a drunk match between topazg and Araban, and rather than the usual handicap, Araban would need to be twice a drunk as topazg. I have no idea how you'd determine that...
The only thing left is figuring out what to call these games.
Hunter S. Thompson Games
Ayn Rand Games
Truman Capote Games
Hemingway Games

I did a bit of a test run last night (sorry, no video) and it was amazing....ly painful. I drank 4 bottles of Heineken in the frame of 1.5 hours which, according to
here, had me at a BAC of 0.083. Felt neither drunk nor tipsy, but kind of in-between. However, throughout the game I found it not only impossible to read without getting a small urge to hurl, I found myself wanting to just the game over quickly by clicking rather than enjoy it by playing. The migraine that was building up (which I'm not sure was from the alcohol or not) didn't help either in getting a good night's rest. Drank a lot of Korean roasted barley tea after the game which helped a bit with the headache. And no hangover.
Game +
pic below. If I ever feel like doing it again, I'll try something which doesn't require drinking a lot in a short period of time

(drank all the bottles before the game). And for Joaz I'll put it on video then. I made a new account on KGS to only play these sort of games to see where my rating will go, but judging by the game quality in my first game I wonder if I can even get it past kyu. My initial impression is that the strength difference, assuming I get myself to that point of intoxication every time, is as much as 4 stones.
Interesting use of tagging feature: keeping track of what I drank. I was Black.

You might have had some dehydration. Drink some water in between drinks and you'll feel better. That is probably, in part, why the tea helped so much (along with the caffeine), and prevented the hangover the next day.

This thread seems to suggest that drinking alcohol is quite normal. Is there anyone except me who does not drink alcohol at all?

Normal is a relative term. Replacing it with "common" makes your statement more appropriate. But I also think it safe to assume you are not alone.

I tend to drink very little, but I do drink some.
I've never played Go when drinking though. It never occurred to me to try.

I have a teetotaler friend as well. Myself, I used to drink socially, but lately haven't drunk any alcohol beyond the almost mandatory celebration champagne every once in a while.

It is largely a cultural thing. Here in the Northeast U.S., most people from 21-70 drink socially. That doesn't mean people get drunk, though--getting drunk is the exception.
In the South, it is much less common, and you'll find more people who do not drink at all.
My personal opinion is that people should not feel like they are the odd one out, either way.
EDIT: Of course, I only mention the U.S. because that is where I have the most experience.

Around here, I find that the 16-30 culture seems to include a lot of a "let's get wasted!" mentality. Don't really understand it.

Ditto, same here, and likewise I don't understand it.

I live in Virginia, which considers it part of the south. I find that among my friends in particular and the populace in general there seems to be a wide division. Some never touch it and others drink (mostly in moderation) every time they get together. Very few seem to drink some times and not others.
