AMA go equipment

General discussions about gobans, etc., go here. If you're selling go equipment, it should go in the Trading Post.

AMA go equipment

Post by sybob »

Hello all,

Although I am not very good at it, I really enjoy the game of go. I also like nice go equipment.
I thought that the appreciation for the game of go might be enhanced if information and knowledge about nice go equipment would be more widespread. At least, in my area (Western Europe - The Netherlands).
I consider myself to have grown into something of a collector or even connaisseur of nice go equipment.
It combines the finest of nature, culture, history and aesthetics.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have (purchase, maintenance, addresses, gadgets, etc.). I do not have commercial strings attached.
I would be pleased to discuss go equipment and/or try to answer any questions, on topic or via pm.

My appreciaton for nice go equipment has even led me to make a website dedicated to it. I have gathered various (free) pictures of beautiful gobans, shiny goishi and more. I want to extend the information provided further over time. Sorry, it is in Dutch only at the moment, but if you want to have a look and perhaps also comment, please see http://www.goishi.nl. (I will make one in English if appreciated)

Kind regards.

I look forward to your site having English articles.

I am not the strongest player but I do enjoy the aesthetics of the game. I am interested in some of the non Kaya woods for boards. Both for beauty and durability. I have also searched for Japanese Glass stones but have been unable to find them. I heard they are of a better quality than the Korean.

Hope your site gets lots of hits!

Japanese glass stones are available from Kiseido: http://www.kiseido.com/go_equipment.htm

Scroll down to find the glass stones.

Hello Anthony,
Tnx for your reply.
Over time, I hope to extend http://www.goishi.nl in English.
As stated in the other reply, you can order Japanese glass stones at Kiseido. Else, you may want to try other suppliers. In the USA, I would expect Yellow Mountain Imports at http://www.ymimports.com can be of assistance. Just mail them and they can probably help you.
And yes, I also hope to see lots of visitors to http://www.goishi.nl.
Kind regards.
