Any conservative Americans out there?

Post by daal »

For a school project on terrorism, my daughter is conducting a few short interviews, and she would like to interview someone whose political views do not hail from the liberal left. If you would have time to answer the 5 questions, please send me a PM. Thanks!

Do you prefer the liberal right? Or the conservative left?
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Liberal left means different things in different countries and to different people. Also do you mean classical liberal, what Americans call a liberal or social liberal? :P

I was using "liberal" in the American sense (communists? ;)). She wants to interview some Americans from a few different sides of the political spectrum, and has already spoken to some left-leaners.

These days American liberals are centrists. ;)

It's quite confusing, actually. A plurality, perhaps a majority of Americans identify themselves as conservative, but hold liberal views. :o

More fun with categorization: there are types of conservatism that map poorly to the Democrat/Republican divide (http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc ... an/306774/).

I heard a poll the other day which said that 47% of American are independents, having no affiliation with either flavor or Republicrats.

I consider myself an environmental libertarian, if such a thing exists. That is, I espouse libertarian views as long as it does not ruin the environment.
