5 Go books read
200-300 tsumego solved
100 games against neighbour
300 games on KGS & IGS total played
studied 20 or so pro game kifu records
played on drugs too a few times
played Pair Go many many times
read the Go comic book and watched the Japanese animated series
taught my sister, Mother AND brother to play
taught two other people to play
owned three Go boards, one of which I made myself

So yeah man I have zero talent in this game (curses! curses! curses!) because after ten years of playing I'm not even CLOSE to a v e r a g e

but at least I have some inkling of a clue of what's going on. (I hope lol)

Some people make it to dan level in a year without even bothering to study y'know?! I can't believe I'm such a newbie even still.

Anyway, I'm sorry that you had to endure reading my emotionally unstable summary, but yes IF YOU MUST KNOW I'm the one and only member of the forum here who likes chess a whole lot better.

And if you like, in Japan the version of chess they have is way more popular than Go, and in China the version of chess they have is way more popular than Go, and even in Korea the version of chess they have is on par in terms of popularity to Go. How would I know? Well that's 'cause I researched ALL those games.

I think you are. :)

  • 5 Go books read -- insufficient
  • 200-300 tsumego solved -- vastly insufficient
  • 100 games against neighbour -- insufficient
  • 300 games on KGS & IGS total played -- insufficient
  • studied 20 or so pro game kifu records -- vastly insufficient
...IMHO.

but not bad for someone who hates go more than chess. I hate baseball more than football (actually, I don't have a clue about baseball) and I have not read a single book about baseball. So this poster is well ahead of me.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).
