My first human vs. human game in a while.

Post by tekesta »

Hello again! Below is my first human vs. human game in a long time. I play as White in this game and the game was even. Time limit is 15 minutes, so of course it's a blitz game  . Despite my best efforts and no dead groups, I lost by 7.5 points. Much obliged in advance for your comments.

You play way too safe. I've never seen anyone improve quickly who played safe - usually people who improve quickly play many overplays and end up in situations where they have to outmaneuver their opponent to win.

:b57: is unreasonable. This is Black's sixth group, and there is a weak black group already in the centre. So you should look to fight on a large scale. I think :w60: at O8 is the correct direction, therefore. By :w70: you are pushing from behind.

:w96: At last you attack the target. But at H13 would be much more interesting. Therefore it would make sense to fix up the ladder first, by attacking the black group on the left side.

10... I would continue on the left. Because it is not clear what white has achieved there.

12... Gotta be bad. There's a proverb to the effect of "having one weak group between two enemy weak groups is fine". In this case, your opponent is fine. C3 is probably sente at 12 and helps. D15 could be treated lightly? After all black played G17.

14... Should be on the left. White has two weak groups and black ~0

15... Black is weird

16... I think white stands to gain more by playing R14 than black stands to gain by playing around O16 (if white wants to help weak groups, white should do that by saving the weak groups)

18... White has two weak groups and N17 had miai for life. Further, now white R10 is weak.

19... Black's move is weird and submissive.

20... White should jump or something. White could consider switching to defending D15 group and calling D4 light (after black played four third line moves and two second line moves). C17 is probably an okay move.

If a stone feels like a burden rather than an asset, I think you should try letting your opponent kill it rather than making every stone heavy.
