Requesting a review

Post by Ian Butler »

Such a losing streak. Another game where I'm completely blown away by my opponent.
It's so frustrating. Hope someone will help me with the review, so I can at least hope to learn from it.

During the game I thought I was doing fine. Maybe I was and I just screwed up in endgame, inviting a ko that was not benificial for me. I can't think straight about it now, I've had too many losses in one week. To quote Cho Chikun: I hate Go.

Hi Ian,

Happy holidays.

:b13: 3-3 ? (*)

:b15: ditto

:b27: bot: (high) pincer ? (*)

:b29: seems good for :white: ; bot: D17 ? (*)

:b47: bot: M17 ? (*)

:b49: What's your plan if :white: o14, then (Q15 + Q14 + R15) ? (*)
completely blown away by my opponent.
Seems no, IMO. Problem seems in the fundamentals. (*)

:b81: Read other candidates ?
e.g. E3 ( or at least F3 ) ?
:b91: B5 ?

:black: 101 fundamentals.

:white: 150 reviewed ?
completely blown away by my opponent.
just screwed up in endgame

8 minutes used up to here, for 75 moves = ~6 sec/move.
How much time would you say is appropriate for a review of this blitz ?

Seems a review helps the reviewer(s) more. :study:

_____
(*) Curious about bot evaluation.

For :b47:, black must play M17.

@EdLee, with the wisdom of LZ#157 :

for :b13:, she prefer this approach to the 3-3. Her favorite move (but not by a lot) is the O17 shimari.

for :b15:, it's between the 3-3 and the O17 shimari (and it's very close, so either is fine). The move played is a -3% "mistake", so I'd say it's not very important

for :b25: and :b27: she wants to play the attach joseki to build the center.

for :b29:, she really dislike your proposition (close to -10%). Her favorite move is M17 invasion, but the kick is fine

At this point, the game is considered equal

My impression is that you could have won this game with a better yose. :b99: was small, you had a sente move at G19, a big point at S4...

At the moment I'm more interested in whether the SGF file that you can download here matches the one you have on your disk, or whether there was some sort of error transferring it. I'm working on an SGF editor right now and it throws an error because the brackets around [5k] and [7k?] in the comments are not escaped. You can see in your post that the widget here truncates the comments, but seems to be able to still interpret the rest of the SGF.

Hi bernds, off-topic:

SmartGo seems to handle the SGF text from post 1 just fine (and as you probably knew, SmartGo's author created SGF). When I "quote" post 1, the two mentioned right brackets are escaped, but not the left brackets.

Off-off: maybe you and Ian had previous communications so you were already familiar with each other's backgrounds... (because "escaped" is a technical usage here, and maybe not known by some).

( One could investigate with an opponent (e.g. a bot; with a [?] rank?), play a 9x9 game -- hopefully the opponent will say hello or thanks during the game -- then save the SGF. )

Ok, that's a good clue. That suggests that the file was correctly saved and entered into the forum, but there's a bug with the widget which causes the comments to become corrupted.
