Help with Books, Articles or Videos on Modern Josekis

Post by psygo »

After some 3 years mostly away from Go, I'm only now coming back to being more active, and now I'm also teaching others regularly. I don't feel like I am any weaker from this whole time away but I do feel very outdated when it comes to many of the current josekis, specially the flying daggers joseki (https://online-go.com/joseki/20913) and the attach to the 3-4 large knight's enclosure (https://online-go.com/joseki/29943).

Two resources which have been amazing at updating me with the new sequences have been AI Sensei, for reviewing my games, and Michael Redmond's YouTube channel. However, these are not as complete as I thought they would be or are difficult to navigate and reach a level of complete comprehension about the topic. I know these josekis are still mutating, but they seem to have reached the point where they could be in thorough book or (very) long (set of) lectures.

Does anyone know of any books, videos or articles on these and other modern patterns?

(For instance, someone played N16 against this (https://online-go.com/joseki/30041), and I just went spinning. Josekipedia calls it a bad move, but I'm not at all convinced about the sequence they use to refute it, and AI Sensei is very confusing about it.)

Welcome back to GO!
Interesting topic and question.

You probably just know that, but I found useful some YouTube videos, in good english, from the korean Go Pro Yeonwoo about new joseki and 3-3 invasion
https://youtu.be/BUetCMEW4Cc about the joseki
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmyX6M62Dwo about 3.3 early invasion
A book that contains an appendix about the 3.3 early invasion is this one from Kiseido: Road Map to Shodan vol.5 - Opening and Middle Game Problems for kyu players, but I think that's possibly under the expectations of a Dan player like you.
A more detailed one is Playing AlphaGo's Early 3-3 Invasion by Yuan Zhou (published independently under amazon). I won't judge the level of this one, since I didn't have read it, but I know the author and he is usually very clear and detailed.

btw maybe it's time for me to change the position in my avatar

Go Pro Yeonwoo probably has a video on these patterns, I'll have a look. But I do keep myself more or less up to date with her videos, and I don't remember anything very focused on them, or at least not extra thorough.

I'm investigating if one of Shibano's recent books features some of this content: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=17310&p=270295#p270295
