A strong and freely available 9x9 program

Post by spacellama11 »

Anybody know of anything? I'm a KGS 2k and I wanted to download a program to play 9x9 games against for a little tactical practice - preferably one that can kick my butt (and doesn't cost money (or too much, anyways)). It would also be cool if anybody knew of an iPhone app that had a strong 9x9 computer.. I have smartgo pro, but it's exceptionally weak.

Thanks :)

Not sure about iphone apps, but Fuego seems to fit the bill for a strong 9 by 9 bot. http://sourceforge.net/projects/fuego/

The strongest I phone app In my opinion is: it igo its of Japanese origin so I don't know the engine it uses but it's as strong as many faces on level 10 igo win pro is weak I beat it playin even on the strongest level and I'm nowhere near 2 kyu but it igo plays much better IMO
standing still means going backwards

I think ther is a free 9x9 version of [sl=ManyFacesOfGo]Many faces of go[/sl] can be downloaded at http://www.smart-games.com/igowin.html

other options to have (free)GoClient with a (free)GoPlayingPrograms

If there is a little money I would suggest MyGoFriend is quite cheap (19 Euro) and strong but it only works on Windows.

GOOD LUCK

MFOG is not free. As is commonly true you can download a free version but one that only plays at very low levels of strength, etc. Do not judge this product based on that. The "free demo" lets you examine the product's "look and feel", that's all (but would still be a useful opponent for beginners).

I think you refer to the " Download The Many Faces of Go Version 12 Free trial" version that is mentioned at the top of the page
That version is seriously handicapped. (and with the newest version i think even more than it was before)

What I mean is the old (9x9) version that is mentioned lower on the webpage which i think is not handicapped (but is an old version)
also a more direct linkhttp://www.smart-games.com/igowin.html

Try Leela Lite. I have been unable to get it to the highest level despite repeated attempts. Not actually sure what the highest level is but it is at least 4p because that is where I am stuck. It is a lot stronger than Igowin, which is easy to beat at the top, professional, level.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).
