It has exactly one less space than a normal board. But 66% more edge
We could play it on a server even if there's one that could do this. The convex corners have me curious, because unlike normal corners they have all 4 liberties.

I've always wanted to do one of these! I would totally be in. EDIT: Though, my initial analysis is that the battles will interact very little, this will basically be a series of local life and death problems. Pincering will almost always be the right move (and close pincers.) An immediate pincer leads directly into a life and death struggle. BUT there IS something interesting, because of the special corners, it is actually rather difficult to kill things on the edge, if they can run along far enough, they will get free.
Tactics yes, Tact no...

i more or less thought the same thing but you could also try a moyo strategy. if you take the "internal" corners there is no escape so a runnning battle would be unplayable.
for example

When I saw "donut board", I thought at first you meant a toroid, i.e. a board where the edges wrap around. That has been tried also a few times, it would make for an interesting malkovich

I don't mind Malkovich, I just wasn't sure I could fine anyone interested given the time commitment (it's still about the same size as a proper board). Sounds like both shapenaji and perceval are game for a malkovich? I can set up two threads. Do we want to try and figure out how a handicap would work? Or just leave it as even (I think even is fine).

I have a question about donut board strategy which I will, perhaps erroneously, hide.

Hiding seems like the right choice.

Ruh-roh! That's a good question. Not all of the usual tricks rely on tengen, do they?

This seems like a tengen variation for this board:

Anyone figure out any go software that can handle this board? SmartGo and Drago both fail because they don't seem to let you make boards larger than 19x19. CGoban let's you make 21x21, but there's no way to set edges in the center, or have permanent markings on the board to show the border. I hate trying to figure out variations with ascii diagrams.

Maybe you can make a 21x12 board with cgoban and mark the middle with squares. You can edit away captured stones and if you count just make a big seki in the middle. I know it's not really good, but the best which comes to my mind.
