Takemiya versus Zen19 on March 17

Post by ez4u »

There is an article on the Nihon Kiin web site, posted Monday, announcing a special event to be held on March 17th at the University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo. First Ohashi Hirofumi, 5p, and then Takemiya Masaki, 9p, will each play two games against Zen. In the morning, Ohashi will play two even games on a 9x9 board, alternating W/B with 20 minutes main time and 30 byo yomi. In the afternoon, Takemiya will then play two games on a 19x19 board with 30 minutes main time and 60 seconds byo yomi. In Takemiya's case the first game will be on five stones. The second game will be adjusted up or down one stone based on the result of the first. The event will run from 09:30 to 18:00 with no entry fee. O Meien, 9p, will be the commentator with the assistance of Yashiro Kumiko, 5p. There will be no entry fee.

It does not appear that this will happen on KGS. The article mentions TeamDeepZen, so I assume that they will be playing against Zen19s, the distributed version of Zen. I wonder whether the team will run it on a larger network for this event.

BTW, for those who do not know, Ohashi is one of the young pros studying English with Antti Törmänen.

I sent a mail to Katoh Hideki, the force behind Deep Zen. He came back with some additional info:

Dear Dave,

You can find the press release of the event at
http://entcog.c.ooco.jp/entcog/event/20120317/humvscom.html but,
unfortunately, only Japanese.

I'll use the same version and hardware as recent Zen19S on KGS for all
games at the event. The game won't be played on KGS but will be
broadcast at a room of Niconico Doga (http://live.nicovideo.jp/ (J)),
though the URL of the room will be announced lately. It's possible for
foreign people register (free) that site by using some machine
translation, though the number of the viewer is limited and regular
members (ie, not payed) may be pushed out from the room. I know some
friends have registered as premium members, who have a priority. I have
no idea about late release of the video.

Best,
Hideki

A while ago I thought I heard they were going to pair up Ishida Yoshio (The Computer) to play against Zen. Did you hear anything like that before?

I couldn't find much about the Ishida match except that it was apparently played on Feb 25th already.

I also heard that it was ran on a laptop, so presumably it didn't do well.

Only 10 hours left until the event starts, although it's listed to run for 8.5 hours(!), so they must have quite a few other presentations etc going on.

What are people's predictions for the Takemiya games? I think chances are very good for Zen to win the H5 game, but I think H4 will be very hard for Zen. If Zen loses the H5 game and plays H6, I would be shocked if Zen lost the H6 game also.

It lists Takemiya playing Zen on 13x13 in an even game - mistake on the website, or something else?

Not sure, but this might be the link on Niconico:
http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv84183657

@Topazg, probably a mistake on the site - the Niconico page says 5 stone game between Takemiya and Zen

Zen tied 1-1 with Ohashi, Hirofumi 5p on 9x9, area scoring, komi=7.0 (ties possible). White won both games.

Zen just won the 5 stone game by 11 points (I think).

4 stones next :)

I transcribed the game from the video. I commented two spots in particular the order was unclear.

yoyoma, illluck: Thanks. Does the nicovideo website require a membership log-in to view the live videos?

Yes, but most people are able to get through it with Chrome+translate or similar.
