An excellent excuse to come visit Ireland! :D

UCC Go (Weiqi) Tournament 2012


We would like to invite everyone to the 6th edition of our annual tournament! It will take place near main campus of University College Cork in the Mardyke Pavilion (which is situated right behind the main building of the Mardyke gym). Further details:

When and where: 17-18th November 2012, Mardyke Pavilion. Car park available right next to the building, drive in from Western Road.
Tournament system: 5 rounds, McMahon, EGF General tournament rules apply. Even games above the bar and handicap – 1 below the bar.
Time limit: 45 min + 25 moves in 5min Canadian time
Rules: Japanese
Komi: 6½ points
Entry fees:

normal – €12
with pre-registration concession – €10
with student concession – €8
Schedule:

Saturday

10:00 – 10:30 – Registration
10:30 – 12:30 – 1st round
12:30 – 13:30 – Lunch break
13:30 – 15:30 – 2nd round
15:30 – 17:30 – 3rd round

We plan to finish at 17:30 and go to a restaurant afterwards (we will book the number of seats according to the number of people that will register on-line). We will also probably head to a pub in the evening

Sunday

11:00 – 13:00 – 4th round
13:00 – 14:00 – Lunch break
14:00 – 16:00 – 5th round
16:00 – 16:30 – Prize giving

Prizes

As usual we will award the best two players above the bar and best two players below the bar.

We will also have a special prize for the best Beginner player as the main aim of the UCC Go (Weiqi) Club is to encourage as many newcomers as possible to play more and improve

Prizes above the bar

1st: €250

2nd: €150

Prizes below the bar

1st: €120

2nd: €80

We would really appreciate if people who are planning to come let us know about it beforehand, so that we have a general idea of the numbers. It makes the organisation a whole lot easier!

The Cork event is also blessed with natural disasters, heralding, as it does, terrible floods and Gale Force winds. It promises excitement in abundance.

I am unsatisfied with vague promises that we will "probably" go to a pub. Unless I am guaranteed several pints of Murphy's in the Oval, I'm boycotting this farce.
