Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts
I would prefer a Japanese player instead of Chang Hao for the sponsor spot. Iyama Yuta would makes things quite interesting.
Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts
Lee Minjin(Korea) resigned from Samsung Cup due to upcoming baby delivery(very soon.).

Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts
In the first round, Lee Sedol 9p lost to Chen Yaoye 9p by time, causing a lot of discussions on Go forums. I've compiled a few diagrams from various sources to show what would happen without the time incidence.

Very interesting analysis. Thanks macelee.
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts
There are some fairly interesting games in round 3.
Seo Bongsoo 9p (Black) vs. Wu Guangya 6p (White) http://www.go4go.net/go/games/sgfview/36126
This is the longest ever international game (392 moves) and it has 58 ko captures, which is nearly a record. See http://web.archive.org/web/200810141808 ... ngest.html for reference.
Ke Jie 4p (Black) vs. Choi Cheolhan 9p (White) http://www.go4go.net/go/games/sgfview/36122
This game shows that even player as good as Choi cannot possibly settle multiple weak groups.
Now all 38 newly played Samsung Cup games are available at Go4Go: http://www.go4go.net/go/games/tournament/1
There should be 40 in total, but heavily pregnant Lee Minjin abandoned her games.

Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts
I thought the fuseki of the Park Yeonghun vs. Niu Yutian game was very interesting:
A pretty complex fight breaks out involving both pincers at once. I don't know enough joseki to know if these variations are new, but as someone who only really knows the hane-cut variation, they were certainly fun for me to play through.

Re: Samsung cup main tournament starts
emeraldemon, this is a quite popular opening. I've seen other examples, such as this one (which I think is even more interesting):
