Tsumego by Ger Hungerink (adults only)

The following problem was composed by Ger Hungerink and published in the Dutch Go magazine in 1980. It is hidden, as even in the small format I used, it is quite large (also, it is not entirely suitable for children )

No goal is given, nor who is to move. Simply put, one is to demonstrate the point of the problem.

Ger introduced the problem thus (my translation):

Let your eyes find the vital points, and research what can be expected when one of the players starts. Dissertations, reports, wild guesses, essays and threatening letters to be sent to the author before may 20th, 1980.

There was a small prize for the right solution, which I am afraid is no longer available

Since the diagram is too large for L19's diagramming solution, I have included it as an image from SL. Well, with no attempts forthcoming, I guess I will post the answer:

Black plays the marked ladder. After black's ladder is lost, but the capture of allows the oshi-tsubushi which creates small life inside.

Matthew Macdafyen had told me about this problem, but I hadn't actually seen it so thanks for posting. 'Black to play and make life' perhaps.

I must say, that is quite an ingenious puzzle...though I don't think I'll be asking my kids about solving it
