Re: cheater in wbaduk

Besides, there's not much value lost in having just one loss too many. You'll recover from it pretty soon.

It is not the loss, it's the principle. Should you let people get away with cheating you, only to go on and cheat someone else? Is it rather not your moral obligation to stop them, even if ...

Re: cheater in wbaduk

For your own stress management, it's better to take the loss and blacklist the player in question.

Nevermind that they don't deserve the win, it's much better to turn away from such people as fast as possible.

Besides, there's not much value lost in having just one loss too many. You'll recover ...

Re: Friendly Advice Thread!

However badly you do it, count the score at every big decision.

Before you resign, count the score.
Before you decide whether to invade or reduce, count the score.
Before you play a purely defensive gote move, count the score.

It matters whether you're behind or not for these decisions. The more ...

Re: Tami's Way

Maybe you need to work harder at a higher age, for the same result. But that's nowhere near the same thing as improvement being impossible.

So long as your memory is still functional, you should obviously be able to learn.

Re: NewInGo returns with details of a new magazine in Japan

There's a block titled "How to make" for the cookies, but I don't know most of the ingredient names used ><

I'd have to partner with a dictionary and hope for the best, so if you can get anyone else who is better at Japanese, you'll probably get more reliable results.

Unbelievable that they'd do that... It's hard enough to draw women into the game without that kind of nonsense.

Re: Tami's Way

I think you're just getting better at instantly seeing if a situation is good or not.

This is a really good thing, too. I just wish I had it with the first 20 moves as much as I have it in local fights ><

Re: Motivation to improve.

When I want to play a piece of music with comfortable ease, I first memorize it while playing it badly (it helps to not have to look which note is next and how to sound it), then I play it far too fast, several times. Nothing complicated, I just set the metronome to tick a little quicker and try to ...

I've always been fond of how helpful, patient and easy to understand EdLee is.

Definitely a good choice.

Re: EGC Drama

So, to recap:

1.Ondrej Silt retakes a ko prematurely.
2.The ref announces Alexandre Dinerstein wins.
3.The ref announces Ondrej Silt has to take back his last move and play on from there, and start with a fresh byo-yomi period.
4.Dinerstein is PISSED OFF by this.
5.Dinerstein resigns, and announces ...

Re: Thinking faster

I lost a lot of time just plain doubting between options I didn't know the consequences of. So now if I can't see where it leads, I just pick one, and eventually it becomes quite clear whether I should choose the same way more often.

Also, especially in a game, if you can't see it clearly from as ...

Re: trick moves

I see the game as an enjoyble competition of two people exercising their minds against eachother.

I like seeing trick plays, because knowing how to refute them, or better still, being able to figure out how to refute them, just tells me I'm better than my opponent.

It's also a show of weakness, in ...

Re: How to Fail at Go (5k advice on fundamental ideas.)

You don't know it's weird, stupid or silly unless you have first considered it.

As a beginner, you need to have every stupid idea there is, and then reject each one.

Re: Why are all go sites so 1990s?

So long as a site does what is expected of it, it's alright if it's ugly.

If it doesn't, though, it doesn't matter how pretty it is.
