Re: strange game, opinions ? (2k)
85 and 87: these are bad moves in my opinion. you should always surround before trying to reduce to one eye, unless you are extremely strong all around. definitely should be at j12. (take profit white threatening)
I was a bit worried about the base for my left group. Shouldn't I ?
Thanks for ...

Re: strange game, opinions ? (2k)
Here are a few thoughts on a few moves, though I am only a bit stronger than you
19: i dont think this is the right move. I think q9 or q10 would be better (as far as making an opening that limits whites moyo potential). The double approach is rarely good against sanrensei (i think), because white ...

Re: Nirensei
But there is an optimal way to play Go.
I guess this is the philosophical question that is at the heart of our disagreement-- whether or not we are approaching an "optimal line of play"
How can there possibly be an optimal way to play go? In the first few moves, there are many options (openings ...

Re: Nirensei
It's definitely a long term thing but I don't think it's sad. What we're seeing is a slow, inefficient, but persistent and purposeful search for the kami no itte. It makes sense that most opening lines are suboptimal and should eventually be discarded. A 30k player can play pretty much anywhere in ...

Re: KGS 4k vs 3k
Hey, a few thoughts (though I'm obviously no expert):
Move 19: I think this move is a bit slow... its kinda like making two eyes in gote unnecessarily.. You have miai between escaping your group and this move if he starts to surround you.
Move 53: Though it could work, I think this is an overplay ...

Re: Journey to Strong dan
Hey Nyuubi,
Congratulations on reaching 1 dan! I myself just reached 1 dan this week too, it's a great feeling isn't it??
I have put forth similar objectives for myself for this coming year, and I thought that since we are in quite a parallel situation as far as our go studies are concerned, maybe ...

hey L19 peeps,
I'm not sure what went wrong in this game... i thought I had a decent start, and at one point in the middle game I had a nice "double attack" going, but in the end I lost by 21.5!! Please help me figure out my mistakes..
Thanks very much!

Re: Thinking You're Good
This is a very interesting thread!
Kirby's questions:
1.) Always thinking that I am not good seems to be harmful to confidence. If confidence is important to strength, how does one balance between being confident and keeping from reaching an acceptable level of proficiency?
2.) Though I want to ...
