Re: How do you begin reviewing your own games?
Thanks guys. Reviewed some of my games. Most obvious mistake: not ensuring my groups have enough eyes. Sigh, basic

How do you begin reviewing your own games?
Hi,
David Ormerod suggested, in a recent Gogameguru posting, that players should review their own games regularly.
But I'm not sure how to begin
. Any advice?
Thanks.

Agree with jts re: knowing joseki in the early stages. (I confess I still don't know joseki; try to remember them but... . Sigh.)

I play on both DGS and OGS. I play slower on turn-based but not always better

Marcus,
Thanks. Your comments about shape reminded me of an instance where my opponent's 'cunning' placements caused one of my groups to form a convoluted shape. Trying to defend it just got me into trouble

Gâday from Australia
Hi,
As it seems to be the season to doing introductions…
I’m in Australia where the number of Go players seem to be low (but kudos to the Gogameguru team for doing their best to promote the game here).
Started playing about a year ago. Agewise, I’m past the half century mark. Don’t have the ...

Re: OGS ratings
OK, here's a OGS rank distribution chart. 1st quartile is at 26k, median 15.5k, and 3rd quartile 7.5k.
Cluster around 29k seems to reflect the default 30k starting point of players new to the server.

Re: OGS ratings
At my level (OGS 21-22k), I've come across several opponents of similar rank but who are actually KGS 8-10k. The OGS rating system seems to be open-ended at the bottom - for example, the lowest ranked player is 45k! Perhaps this results in a wider ranking spread.

Hi SoDesuNe,
Your remark:
In my opinion we only have a broad understanding of the basics when we enter Dan-level. reminded me of magicwand's thoughts (http://www.lifein19x19.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1540):

Re: What to know at different levels
Hi loons, Something that I've been noticing - really very emphatically - is that other people similar level to me have insanely different knowledge bases. And yet we maintain the same rank. Interesting. Would it true to say that your opponents (presumably strong SDK or better) have the broad basics ...

What to know at different levels
Hi,
In trying to find out how much I've yet to learn (which is a lot!), I came across this post at SL page " Rank and what you know " (hope it's OK to cite it):
" tartuffe : While these concepts can be grasped on some level before the given level, I think this is about right for "application of ...

Are we beginner Go players insane?
Hi,
We beginners are advised to play and lose 100 games (of course we secretly hope to win).
Given that we keep repeating the same mistakes, perhaps we fit the definition of 'insane' -- "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results" (commonly attributed to Einstein).
Cheers ...
