Everyone makes 20k. You just have to keep playing, I think.
Won't guarantee you SDK, though. There was a barrier there that I had some trouble getting by.
Thanks. I'd like to think so, but my progress is dreadfully - painfully - slow.
For a more esoteric goal, I'd like to get good enough to ...

Short term: I'd like to make 20k.
Long term: Someday I'd like to make SDK. I don't expect I would ever surpass that.

It is a realtime go server but you can play against either humans or several bots.

Re: Longest game you've ever played?
Pardon me, but I'm skeptical. That's really weird behavior even for a bot.
To believe that it happened, we have to believe that a bot
1) Manages to place ~180 stones without making a live group.
2) Continues to play even when tens of thousands of points behind.
3) Allows each side to make one ...

Re: Longest game you've ever played?
What's the most moves you've ever had in a 19x19 game?
It wasn't me, but I saw a guy play a game on KGS against a bot with (iirc) about 32,000 moves. His strategy was to build a spiral so that ~180 of opponent stones are snaked round and then in atari, capture them and then repeat for ~179, ~178 ...

No, it is definitely a human and not a bot. Bots don't post game invitations.SmoothOper wrote:Maybe it is a Bot, I think some Bot's play it out because they skimp on implementing endgame counting.

Longest game you've ever played?
I'm in a game at OGS that is now in move #441. I've captured 121 stones thus far; my opponent 32. (It's a truly awful game; I haven't resigned in disgust only because at this point I want to see if my opponent will call it quits before it literally becomes impossible to move.)
What's the most ...

Re: Hexagonal goban needed
Well that's the number of points on a traditional 19x19 goban.xed_over wrote:Trebuchet wrote:How large would it need to be to have 361 points?
why would it need 361 points?
How many points did you have in mind?

Interesting idea. Have you played any games on one? How large would it need to be to have 361 points?

Re: Is it better to play against stronger players?
I play about a third of my games against my mentor handicapped and the rest even with me playing black. I even win on occasion if he's nice.
Online I play a mix but since I'm fairly new most players are better or roughly equal.
I do feel I learn more from playing better players. I'm not bashful ...

Re: Question about go ettiquette
I recommend direct communication suggesting that the game stop since you have gotten well ahead and there is little/no chance for her to catch up. Hints, prodding, and so forth are more likely sources of confusion and frustration than resolution of the problem, particularly with a beginner ...

Trebuchet, I don't know much about the Amazon appstore, I will try and tell you.

Re: Looking for stones like these...preferably cheap.
I see what you mean by "pudgy coins."
I thought my old set might work but they are the flying saucer shape. 20mm by 6.5mm.
My new single 22mm convex stones took 25% more space in my old bowls than the old stones - so much I was afraid they wouldn't all fit.

The pictures on the eBay site don't show the profile very well. Can you post better pics of what you are trying to match?

Alberich wrote:Are the boards on Yellow Mountain Imports painted or engraved?
Painted. The bamboo board I bought from YMI had painted lines below the finish, which I suppose has the effect of making them "embossed" since the surface is perfectly smooth.
