Re: Proper way to improve your game?

Thank you guys for your answers!

@SoDesuNe: You're right, I think I'm getting affected by the "I want a great ranking!" idea that most new players carry with them. I also think that your strength is based in how you play, not on a number. I just need to fix that thought in my head.

@Bill Spight ...

Re: Proper way to improve your game?

Hello there!

I'd start another topic, but I have this one already so I'd like to ask a question that is around my head today. I had a streak of lost games and my confidence went down really fast. I've been thinking that everytime I go to my local club and come back home, my game somehow does not ...

Re: Fuller board = slower moves?

I'm just a beginner like you, Peter, but for me the middle game is where I spend most of the time.

At the opening, I consider the best moves as good as possible but without stopping for too much time. I think that most of my answers are almost automatic when I see a particular shape or open spot ...

Re: Proper way to improve your game?

Thank you for your words Mike, I'm certainly doing my best to get strong fast. About that game I would say that the most evident problem is that I don't connect groups as good as I should, but I'm aware that dozens of my movements were horrible.

EdLee proved me today in KGS how much I have to ...

Re: Proper way to improve your game?

@Amelia: Don't give advice to my opponents! It's hard enough as it is! :P The sgf viewer looks really easy to use Amelia, thanks a lot for the tip!

@jts and yoyoma: Ok, understood. Then the group is neither dead or alive, it's unsettled! About being pedant there's no need to worry, I think you're ...

Re: Proper way to improve your game?

You're right skydyr, but I think that yoyoma is trying to point out that me as black and moving first I could have killed that group with more tsumego knowledge. But it's just what I think, I may be wrong :-?

Re: Proper way to improve your game?

I don't know how to post games here but... white is dead at this point playing black at S16. No escape possible. Tsumego problem! In fact, until movement 210 it's a dead group. I didn't notice about it just after white closed, then I was like "oh..."

Re: Proper way to improve your game?

I got so many of those "uh-oh" moments I lost count of them  The worst of them is when a whole wall of 20+ stones gets completely surrounded and killed. At those moments I think if I should play something like checkers instead Go

Re: Proper way to improve your game?

@Amelia: Yeah... I feel those moments will be less and less with time, but I'm still in search for them! You're supposed to be around my strength as well, right? When was your last "revelation" if I may ask? I hope you're advancing at a good pace, that would give me hopes for the future :D ...

Re: Proper way to improve your game?

Woah, thank you for the replies guys, they're very much appreciated!

@Amelia: I'd love to post some of my games here but the coding to do so looks so... strange to me. I'll eventually give a try thought, just to prove what I mean by "invasions" :-? By the way, I play always on 19x19, the 9x9 board ...

Proper way to improve your game?

Hello everyone,

I'm a beginner who started playing Go a bit more than two weeks ago and I have been playing over and over during these days (I'm unemployed, so it became a sort of addiction). Though at the local club I joined offer me a lot of help and I think I'm not doing bad, I really want to ...

Hello there!

Hello everyone!

I'm Dan, from Spain, thought I live in Romania right now :D I started playing Go at the beginning of this month and I fell in love with the game. Since then I've joined a club, played in KGS a lot of times and read a few books, and I'm hoping to become stronger and stronger.

I ...
