Re: How much does Fuseki matter?
I have to agree with others here that Fuseki matters, but only to Dan-level and to a lesser extent SDK level players. Generally DDK players make so many mistakes throughout the game that a mistake in the opening (which is highly likely to happen anyway) has little if any impact on the middle/end ...

Strength of MFoG Ver12 Registered?
I am seriously considering shelling out the 90 dollars for the Registered Many Faces of Go version 12. However there seems to be some confusion as to the strength of the program depending on which page you are looking at. One page says the program is 1-Dan on 19x19 (3-Dan 9x9), and the other says it ...

Re: First win by forcing GnuGo resign (9H)
I have noticed this as well. Most of knowing when to tenuki and when not to comes from knowing when to ignore a sente move by White and when not to. Of course, if White ends a move in gote, and there are still open points on the board, then tenuki is more obvious.

First win by forcing GnuGo resign (9H)
I don't know how strong level 10 is as far as Kyu/Dan, but it's the strongest level in GnuGo. The game was pretty solid in my opinion, as I am getting better at making the handicap stones work together as a whole-board group:

Played my first game as White
At my local Go club, there was someone there who was much newer to the game than I am now. He was more comfortable playing on a 13x13, and to be Black. I said I might as well start teaching with White at some point .
Since this was my first game (ever) as White, I decided not to give him any ...

Re: Qustion: Life and death
Case 1: Black lives in Gote in order to answer White's last move (which probably established 2 eyes for White, while Black did not yet have 2 eyes and could therefore be killed). The score at the end of Black's 2-eye making move is a tie with White, 2-2.

Re: Even game win against MFoG 18k
1) I am more familiar with standard Unix (like FreeBSD) than I ever will be with Linux.
2) Knowing that, I am capable of typing command line options.
Now that that is out of the way, we can get back to business. I am just plain lazy, and don't feel like reading documentation for a list of command ...

Re: Qustion: Life and death
So, a move which solidifies an area with 2 eyes while not attacking, is considered "living in gote".

Re: Qustion: Life and death
Next to some members' names I see the phrases "lives in gote" "lives in sente", "dies in gote", etc. What is the difference between sente and gote?

Yes, I have an account on KGS under the same name. Mostly I just watch high-Dan level games, but I will start playing more often eventually.

Re:
Black dies. The only way to save them that I could see was the T17 "baiting" move.

Re: Even game win against MFoG 18k
I have GNU-Go, and I usually take a 9 stone handicap, and I lose most of the time, which is why I don't like playing against it. And there is no way to adjust the AI level in GNU-Go, at least that I have found. If anyone knows how, any help would be appreciated.

Re: Even game win against MFoG 18k
Yes, I saw that too. B10 is the move that kills me here, so I was happy White didn't do it. If White never played those, the C10 group remains unsettled, and I can't play A12 because that gives me a dead shape (4 point square).

Re:
Black failed to take into account the eye at "a". If not for that eye, then yes, Black could kill white (I think).
Ike, as others explained, White is alive with one eye at (a) and the second eye at the greyed area, including the dead stone:

Even game win against MFoG 18k
I focused mainly on taking 3 out of 4 corners and attempting to break out from them. Couldn't do it for all of them, the top right corner got isolated. Tried to take the 4th corner with 3-3 point, just to see if it could be done. Of course it couldn't, due to white simply being too strong at that ...
