Re: new posts link?
"New posts" has reappeared for me recently, but only when I'm logged in, and it tells me there aren't any new posts when actually there are.

Re: "Code Name: BlueSpot" pro vs AI handicap matches
I'm surprised at how little English-language coverage there is on this one. Nothing in the AGA e-journal or on reddit. One OGS forum post where someone is sceptical about the quality of play from the anonymous human professionals (the reason why I missed the names in the video is that they're not ...

Re: "Code Name: BlueSpot" pro vs AI handicap matches
I found the broadcast at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xd6M_b7ksLg There's 50 minutes of intro before the first game starts. I haven't watched much of it yet, and I didn't get the player names. They're not making it easy to find information about this event!

Re: LifeIn19x19.com v2.0!
I think the plan was to check things are working, fix any serious bugs and then send the group email? Some problems with diagrams and SGF attachments have been reported in this thread but not yet fixed, and a few of us would like a larger default font size. apetresc shows as last active this morning ...

"Code Name: BlueSpot" pro vs AI handicap matches
The web site is a bit short on detail, and looks to me more like a trailer for a thriller movie than a serious go event. But hopefully there is more to the story. Has anyone heard more about this? https://codenamebluespot.com/

Re: Endgame values with area counting
I tried a different trick for juggling fewer numbers a few years back, but the conversation meandered a bit and I never figured out whether or not I was onto a good thing.dfan wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 5:48 am I still do find that in the general case this method requires me to juggle fewer numbers...

Re: Two against one, what is the right intuition?
I find this somewhat unexpected that two groups can fight equally with one group. You can, after all, only play one move at a time in Go. On account of this it would seem to be a huge advantage to only have one group to take care of.
Right. But on the other hand, the single group is normally the ...

Re: LifeIn19x19.com v2.0!
Oh, and another bug: diagrams at https://www.lifein19x19.com/viewtopic.php?t=19054&start=15 appear to be broken. I'm seeing boxes with the text "Go Diagram" where I'd expect to see the actual diagram. The "click here to show diagram code" links work: the diagram code is still there, just the images ...

Re: Absolute Zero
Intriguing... It's very jargony, more so than the various AlphaGo papers. I can't tell if this software is actually doing something brilliant, or if it's merely an improvement on previous models that were terrible.

Thanks Philip for sharing this. Indeed it's beautiful and fascinating. It's part of a larger research paper, "Opening strategies in the Game of Go from feudalism to superhuman AI" by Bret Beheim: there's a preprint at https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/cewst_v5, and code at https://github.com ...

I think it is like this.
Oh, that's nice!
To split hairs, KataGo thinks this way is about half a point better. This is all a bit above my level; I'm just posting it because the first move is so striking.
