Re: Announcing Gridmaster (Android app)

Hello,

I finally found that if I pinch the board and zoom out I can view the tree when reviewing (memorizing) a pro game which is useful to see if I'm following the main tree or if I've made a mistake and caused a variation. However, the tree seems to be misplaced and is actually behind the board ...

Re: Don't call it a comeback...

Your first instinct should always be to reduce eyespace from the outside rather than play on vital points inside Black's shape. Playing inside with a tricky move is the correct move so often in tsumego problems (plus it's sexy) that people always want to try it first, but playing from the outside ...

Re: Don't call it a comeback...

I would say, natural is to block at B16. That way, all your stones are connected and he is confined to a corner space that is obviously (maybe not obvious to you, but it will be at some point) too small for 2 eyes.
Understood, thanks

As I said, even after your play at B18, nothing is lost: if ...

Re: Announcing GoReviewPartner - v0.11.2 (with Live Analysis

Really liking that new UI, can't wait!

Quick question and my apologies if it's been asked before: I'm noticing that GRP with Leela is using what I would consider a low number of playouts for each of the top recommended moves in a 19x19 game:

GRP_Playouts.png

I've seen that number go as high as ...

Re: Don't call it a comeback...

Hi Schachus, thanks for the review!

You won this game for one reason: corners and sides are the most important things in go and you understood that but your opponent didnt understand it.
Agreed. Once the skirmish in the lower-left corner was over I reassessed and tried to focus on staking out ...

Don't call it a comeback...

After a not-so-great beginning I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out, though I'm sure there are plenty of learning opportunities within!

side note: It's interesting that OGS doesn't display a rank below 25K online, making us appear ...

Re: Not sure where my head was at with this one...

Hi Joaz, thank you for the review!

I debated about playing at K3 but decided against it as I thought my stone would be all alone and ineffective; but then proceeded to play my stone in a corner where the surrounding white stones were even closer.

My only other thought was that approaching the ...

Re: Not sure where my head was at with this one...

Hi Ian, thanks for the review!
Some comments. Don't take them too seriously, nor my variations, since I am myself only a DDK player
Still better than a TPK!

- You were attacking a weak white group, good. Try to keep up the attack. You sort of give up halfway and let him out.
Yes, clearly this ...

Re: Not sure where my head was at with this one...

Hi dfan, thanks for the review!

:b11: is not a good move because once White blocks at B4, you have to defend against B6 in gote and then White is free to do what he wants (probably keep harassing you with D6) while you haven't even started making eyes or running away to the center. The standard ...

Not sure where my head was at with this one...

This should be a pretty quick review as I imagine someone could point out a few choice moves and then just give a summary.

I was trying to focus on some things I'd read recently, both in reviews here and in the book I'm currently reading (Learn To Play Go vol 5) about keeping good shape, using the ...

Re: Review request, please and thank you!

Hi Joaz Banbeck, thanks for the review!
9: Your hoshi stone is afflicted with a double high approach. You could get locked in the corner.
The theoretically ideal play - if O17 were not there - would be to split him with P15.
I hadn't heard of the double high approach. I will keep in mind to ...

So much great software available for training and reviewing. I already really liked sabaki as an SGF editor so I'll make sure to try this out. Thank you!

Haha, no donation needed, working on GRP is already quite rewarding
Fair enough, but the offer stands should you change your mind!

In the meantime sleepyEDB, for further analysis, tell GRP to start the analysis at move 2, it avoids that bug.
The next time I run into negative komi I will ...
