We could continue just the grid or even add more stones. Either way it'll give it a more solid and consistent look than just a brown image on a light-blue background, no?

Ditto. (And ditto on the editing the template to prevent the rescaling.)

and what will it look like for people who don't stretch their browser window fully across their screens?

If it's done right, there will be a horizontal scroll bar, but nothing else on the page will scroll. (If done wrong, it will stretch out everything else on each page, making things look terrible. Right now it looks like it's done properly.)

I personally like it the way it is. If you extend it out, I think it would mess with the aesthetic of the image.

right, they're not going to stretch it (they all know better than that)... they're just talking about a wider version that fits better

Thanks, I'm happy someone likes it. The picture has a bit of perspective so just adding more lines may be tricky. I can recrop it (actual image size is 3700 x something) or take a new photo, but what size or proportion should the extended pic have?

It would look, essentially, like this: example. (Note how even if your browser window isn't large enough to display the entire image, it doesn't cause any problems with the layout below.)

Personally I like it for the site's main image, but I could handle a version that was reduced vertically for topic pages.

Can we get a logo, or a re-size of one in 699x80 for the front page?
I'm thinking...

I couldn't resist the urge to declare "I was there when the logo went wonky for five minutes!"

Apropos, it gladdens me to no end how readily the admins are adapting the site to the desires of the users here.
