If it's done right, there will be a horizontal scroll bar, but nothing else on the page will scroll. (If done wrong, it will stretch out everything else on each page, making things look terrible. Right now it looks like it's done properly.)
Thanks, I'm happy someone likes it. The picture has a bit of perspective so just adding more lines may be tricky. I can recrop it (actual image size is 3700 x something) or take a new photo, but what size or proportion should the extended pic have?

right, they're not going to stretch it (they all know better than that)... they're just talking about a wider version that fits better
It would look, essentially, like this: example. (Note how even if your browser window isn't large enough to display the entire image, it doesn't cause any problems with the layout below.)
Personally I like it for the site's main image, but I could handle a version that was reduced vertically for topic pages.
