Hello, New Here and hoping to go pro
Hello I am United Go and I am 16 years old. I started playing go and now I'm in love with it. I hope to become an insei but I am not strong enough. This worries me because the age limit for becoming a insei in Japan for the Nihon Kiin is 25 and I also need a sponsor so I need to continue studying. Thus I have joined this forum. Go players that I look up to are BattsGo, Lee Sedol, Ke Jie, and Cho Chikun. if you have any free resources for learning go please feel free to tell me them, I want to become an Insei as soon as possible so I have to study really hard. Sometimes it's discouraging when I look at the pros in Japan and Korea and they are already pro by my age, but I must prevail. I would like to go insei before 20, who knows maybe I can do it I have a couple of years left!
The key is to stay positive and optimistic. Thank you for your time.

Re: Hello, New Here and hoping to go pro
Hello,
Its possible to become insei with in 3 Years if you study hard but its a difficult way, but you should never stop studying,at the beginning quantity is more important, try to get a little from everything and play a lot of games, watch many basic lectures and concentrate during every game so you can learn sth.Try to aim for 10 kyu within 3 Months, (realistic if you study),and 5 kyu in 5 additional Months, and 1 kyu in the last 4,thats realistic if you keep your motivation and if you keep studying you can become that strong in your first year. Good luck:)

Forget age 25. After that many years of intensive play and study, you will almost have reached your potential, anyway. I have two suggestions:
1) Look into attending Myongji University in Korea. They have a baduk (go) studies program. Many of their students, even if they do not become pro, can make a career teaching baduk or reporting on it.
2) Do not play socially. That means playing opponents who, at this point, can wipe you off the board. Like many skills, skill at baduk is mostly caught, not taught. If you play weak players you can easily catch the wrong things. Online, play 9 stone games, unrated. Or play 5 stone games on the 9x9 board. Games will be quicker, and you can learn a lot.
Good luck!
