^^ I'm in the 3rd picture, wearing blue, 6 and 7th wearing green, and in the tenth I should be sitting at the board in the middle where no one is playing, but my opponent hadn't shown up, so I'm watching games ^^

I managed 3rd place in 5d division, but Di (standing behind me in picture 3) got 1st, 5 wins! Some of his opponent were from open division (as were mine I guess).

I'm a little late here, but that was a great tournament, many thanks to the organizers. There hasn't been a Go event that large in Vancouver since 2004 - now I may consider going to the Canadian Open next year even if it means buying a plane ticket! It was really fun.

I still can't believe a 12 year old won the championship

Humm well do they let americans play? I pretty much hate going to LossAngles CA, so if I could make the Canadain one next year that would be cool.

Yes, I believe AGA members are allowed to play (that may not even be required, I'm not sure). There were a few Americans at this year's tournament.

It was just announced that the next Canadian Open will be in Edmonton, Alberta: http://www.go-canada.org/news/news_2010-09-29.php#open

It's official - Hu Ziyang is #1 in China's annual (read bloody) Pro qualifying tournament this year(2011), and is a new pro now! Congrats!

BTW, 13-year old Hu has registered for this year's US Go Congress - not sure if he is still going to make it or not. I bet he will upset a lot of strong players if he is here. ;-)

Can it really be said that he would be upsetting anyone in the Americas given that he is a 13 year old pro himself and obviously on the rise?

Absolutely - he is intimidating to any NA pros sitting across the table because he is so young, and strong.

Gobert: in sports and other competitions, the more typical use of upset is "to beat someone in a surprising way." When Feng Yun lost two games in the SAMG qualifiers last week, those losses were "upsets". Hence the confusion.
