Going through Graded Go Problems Vol. 3 and being 23k is definitely not right =D Guess, on KGS you would be at least 12-kyu.

Well, ranks are often somewhat strange. I was struggling for a while in low IGS ranks (made it up to 17k), then switched to KGS were I went up until 5k instantly. It was unbelievable back then, but basically it is just a number. If you have even games right where you are enjoy, if not your rank will change sooner or later anyway. Switching the server once in a while may help not to get too attached to those numbers.

im on problem # 20 in vol 3 i only got 5 wrong so i think this is the book for me. :D

yesterday i played a lot of great games i don't even know where to begin oh yeah
i beat this guy who beats me every time we play, i won by one point.

i just now noticed they upgraded the problem button on the Wbaduk window so instead of a webpage like before a nice little applets loads up and you can solve problems in between games which is good for me because i was tired of the same old problems on my phone

I'm on 17 out of 365 19-15k problems i got 3 wrong so far. i really like these problems. :study:

i only played like 6 games so its not a solid rank but i got the picture.

Well back to Wbaduk
i got more friends on wbaduk now so im kinda attached to it my friend dfshwiuf just made 20k :rambo:

Wooo! I got punished today :blackeye: its back to the books and some serious review of my games

I played a few blitz games. I’m not good at blitz games.... yet

30 seconds a move, i don't think i ever played that fast before
and my opponents opening was weird it threw me off completely I didn't know what to make of it

I was surprised and didn’t even have time to get over it because I had to play before time ran out. It was fun but some of the craziest go I ever seen. It looked like all the rules went out the window and it was just a big fight

But actually the opponent was very calculated and knew exactly what to do and the opening had a quiver effect on my games because it was new to me.
here is the blitz game

a lot of my groups died today rest in peace & no wins for today but I got taught a lot lessons
& did a lot of problems online

I'm on problem number 51 on the wbaduk problems 19-15k
I'm going to finish up some more of graded go problems Vol 3 before I lay it down for the night

I'm still working through attack & defense I haven't looked at in two days I left off on the shoulder hit now I'm on capping plays it’s a great book and extremely well written and explained

If I'm not too tired I will review lessons in fundamentals I finished the book but I think
I should keep reviewing it until I'm at least 20k

Don't be intimidated by your opponent. A lot of his moves were actually not good.

What about

N2 at M3 (works better against the white stone)
D6 at C6
F4 at E3
O4 at O6?

C12 was probably the crucial mistake, it doesn't threaten White which is strong there already and leaves the C14 invasion behind. What about a move like N17 instead - playing away from thickness?

I liked how you outread your opponent in capturing the P12 cutting stone.

Some bots continue to make the same type of mistakes - playing against them too often may result in you developing a habit of playing bad moves that work against the bot.

But so do human players. I think the suggestion of not playing bots should be replaced with not wholly playing against a single opponent.

I agree - playing bots is not bad as long as you understand that playing against the same opponent exclusively may hinder your progress. Of course, even if you do play a human player exclusively, as long as your opponent plays against other players it's unlikely to be a big problem.

i had to much fun working through attack and defense last night so i think I'm going to finish this book
and make a few more notes as i go along today
when i need a break from my books ill do some problems online
i did problems 20-30 in graded go problems Vol. 3 last night and got all of them right
I'm currently on problem 72 on Wbaduk 19-15k i missed 6 so far today

i don't think I'm going to play today just do tsumego and finish my book and review my games in depth
i got a lot of new games to go over

as far as bots go when i don't have the internet on and i wanna play go its nice to have a challenging bot to play
it would be even nicer if go was more popular and i could find more people that played go, but so far i only know one other person
and I'm glad i got him

im on problem # 58 on vol. 3 all together im 73 %

i finished attack & defense i got a lot of ideas i need to try out so im back to playing serious games tonight
i been reading around L19 more and more getting ideas and i read somewhere it will take time for the information i been studying to show up in my games
so i think im just going to review the same books until i can see some improvement i even notice sdk players studying elementary series

im on problem 72 on wbaduk set 19-15k these are easier than the vol 3 set but these problems are new so i plan to do them in between games

see ya :study:

i've been studying more than i have been winning  since i ranked up i have been getting creamed even my handicap games are more challenging its fun but after each loss i gain a better understanding for the game so its a win win

on vol 3 im currently on problem #70 i missed 23 problems so far out of 70 they get harder as you go along but i like this book im around 68%

i had to start over on my wbaduk problems since i had to reinstall wbaduk because it wasn't connecting or something
so im redoing 1 -72 currently and i got the first one wrong i was so mad i haven't missed on since im on number 30 currently.

its the holiday season i have been thinking about buying the fundamental principles of go by Yilan with this amazon gift card i got as a early christmas gift. either that or first kyu i read reviews and they say its a awesome story, decisions decisions

btw. you can manually set the wbaduk problems (those in the client) you prefer to solve - while redoing is fine, you don't "have to start over".

I would like to modify my study journal technique
so far it has been diary style and at first it was goal oriented
but now I want it to be improvement based
So from now on each of my post will be

1: go problem report w/ questions
2. game posted for comments w/ questions
3. Current points w/ rank -wbaduk

I wont post until my points raise I gotta start seeing more progress from my program
And if I don’t have more points I have made no improvement and that helps from keeping my journal from getting as big as the starcraft thread wow

Here's what I'm doing to get strong –

Problems – go problems Vol 3 and wbaduk problems
Read Books & Watch tons of reviews and lessons – elementary series /go videos
Play a ranked game everyday – wbaduk
Look for cool new go stuff

My plan is based of tsumego will make you strong
Doing tsumego correctly reading out the complete sequence before placing you first stone
So that covers reading

For improving my understanding of the game I'm watching a lot of go videos right now
That gave me the post a game for review idea with every post from now on

I read anything go related but I wont post my books progress anymore because I'm just going to reread the same book over again until I'm done with my elementary education and that’s 1 kyu
I will post when I add to it or if I want to compliment something I read

Play more ranked games so it will be no handicap
Not to many people ranked the same level as me so I play a lot of handicap games against stronger players and my no handicap opening is soft so now I'm room jumping on wbaduk looking for even matches to get stronger playing even because I can out read a lot of my even opponents

These go videos are helping me see better ideas and its really good stuff I just got turned on to video commentary and review from browsing L19 this places is a gateway to fuel my addiction to getting stronger and stronger

No, you didn't. Most of us don't for that matter.

Opening:
Common wisdom is to extend from a corner enclosure or deny this extension for your opponent respectively. So something like K3 with move 6 would be my first choice, (http://senseis.xmp.net/?BeginnersGuideToTheOpening#toc4) With move 26 I would consider the right side first.

Middle game:
N16 and the cut there were not good in my opinion. The center is open from two sides, you don't have to push through there. Something like F15 would have been fine. (And hard to stop.) N16 helped Black to close the top side, which were open on the side before. + There is no need to worry about the top left it is so very much alive after your opponents mistake earlier, that you should not worry at all. You can ignore several moves of your opponent in that area and still would be alive.

hey life is good in my go world
this year started off with a blast

I beat a 7 kyu playing even on KGS
its kind of funny because it was suppose to be a teaching game and at the end he asked me what should he work on :D

I made my own folder for the games I most proud of
It only has 2 games this one and the 3 dan game

I'm at 3800 points on wbaduk
I think my studying is starting to sink in

I have been taking advantage of the free reviews & lectures on KGS in the KGS teaching ladder room , I wish I would have knew about this stuff before when I was trying KGS out

I feel pretty confident so I have my estimated rank at 10 kyu so well see what happens I’m currently 11 kyu my rank hasn't settled yet I kept getting guests matches until I took my auto match off of free games

My first ranked match against a 10 kyu I lost by 16 points in the endgame so I’m confident I can make 10 kyu soon

Also I got a few games going on DGS

My new year ambition for go is 20 tsumego a day
So far I'm staying with it

Currently
I completed 60 tsumego this year so far
